A British documentary “How to be Slim” looks at food and dieting myths and what makes us fat and helps us lose fat. First they disspell the myth that a slow metabolism is what makes “us fat” and show conclusively that “eating too much” is what makes a person fat. There are a few reasons why people eat too much… which are hinted at here, though I will discuss more in other posts but from a “dietary: what to eat to lose weight” they sum up four key tips to help us lose weight:
1. Eat lean protein, it keeps you fuller for longer. Lean protein includes: Skinless chicken breast, fish, tofu and beans.
2. Decrease your portion size by eating off smaller plates, don’t eat while you are distracted and buy smaller serving sizes (especially of treats). The bigger the portion, the more you will eat!
3. We need a visual reminder of how much we have eaten. Keep a food diary!
4. Calcium helps bind to dietary fat so we absorb less. Eat low fat yoghurt or cheese as part of a healthy balanced diet.
5. Eat low calorie soup. Eating soup keeps you fuller for longer.
