One Step at a Time…
“This week has been an interesting one. With the stress of sitting end of semester exams at Uni and trying to kick old habits admittedly it’s been a tough one
! This week was very much about recognising “hot moments and triggers” (as Lisa calls them), working through them and celebrating the small changes that were made. Whilst my eating was not as good as I had hoped it would be, it wasn’t all bad news.
Through keeping a photographic food diary (highly recommend this! Being able to SEE what you have eaten is so powerful!). I was able to see that I had still made better choices then I usually would have. Some of these changes in particular were that: in times of high stress, I would choose to go for a walk, get some fresh air and come back, rather than reach for coffee, coke or chocolate.
One “trap” I was determined not to fall into was the ‘stimulant cycle’ (which we learned about in the Breakthrough workshop). This was the thing I worked the hardest at this week, doing my very best to keep myself out if it and wow, did I notice a difference!
But the main victory for me this week was realising that my mindset has started to shift from “living to eat” and “eating to live.”
When making my meals, or making the decision of what to purchase, I noticed that I was now looking for food that was nutritional and nourishing for my body. Whilst the sweet treats still looked appealing, I noticed they had lost their “glow”. But that wasn’t always the case…
I did have one major “binge” moment this week and it wasn’t until after I had finished gorging myself, that I realised what was going on and thought to myself “Oh, isn’t that interesting?” I then evaluated the situation and have placed “triggers and prompts in my way” (one of the strategies we learned) so that when I’ve reached my point of being beyond stressed and so overwhelmed, that I now have strategy to move forward in success.
But, I’ve just got to remember, it’s one step at a time. One step at a time makes up a journey and I’m just at the beginning of mine.”
